The taste of Umbria, between history and peace
once upon a time,
The estate was a farm, where all the farmers brought their crops to be prepared according to the methods of a bygone tradition. Our interest is to make our guests aware of these now lost customs.
During the renovation of the company we found many objects that were used by farmers more than a century ago. Tools for plowing the fields, lathes for oil and wine. The estate in fact had and still has a large cellar where the "farmers" spent their days working on the estate.
We went to research not only inside the house, but also in the historical archives of Città della Pieve, which still today preserve all the records of the activities that took place on this farm.
Come and discover this ancient reality in person, obviously tasting the typical flavors of our territory accompanied by the right wine. Live this experience inside our cellar.
The oldest evidence we have states that the estate, about 150 years ago, was built by the noble family of Fargna and was a real farm where all the crops from the territories of Città della Pieve and the surrounding area converged.
All lands owned by them, obviously. Here the farmers brought their wheat, barley, various legumes, freshly milked for processing and the livestock destined for slaughter. It was a real agricultural factory; inside the farm the products were transformed and seasoned, stored and preserved to then be sold.
This is evidenced by the large cellars of pre-nineteenth-century construction, located right under the villa that we can admire today.
In the episcopal archive of Città della Pieve today there is an entire room dedicated exclusively to the storage of documents relating to the agricultural activities of the lords of Fargna, among the greatest "landlords" in the pre-nineteenth century era of our territory.
Transfers of ownership
Over time the properties were divided and sold to other noble families of the time. There are stories that tell of transfers of ownership for gambling debts and more.
In the early years of the 20th century, the Farm and the lands to the northeast passed into the ownership of German missionaries of the “Divine Word Society, who perhaps chose this place for the presence of water sources. Here, they opened a seminary for the training of aspiring missionaries in the German language, as well as producing oil, wheat and more. They were great producers and consumers of wine.
Afterwards
During the Second World War, the property with the land and the relative villa were exchanged by the missionaries with the Nobles of Montefiascone, who also owned other cellars and wine producers. Their EST EST EST is famous.
In this area, war relics from the war that also affected this territory were found in the cellars and on the land. Uniforms, helmets and other equipment were left by German soldiers in 1944 during the liberation of Città della Pieve on 19 June by the Allies. This suggests that the missionaries (of whom we have no trace today) hosted German soldiers, their own compatriots, during the conflict and used the cellars as a logistical base for controlling the territory.
Today
the villa, the cellars and the land were acquired in our farm, with the aim of restoring the property to its former splendor and telling what happened inside the Farm during the years of maximum development. Telling the story and explaining various functions of these ancient machines.
We are Federico, Alessandro and Simona and we believe in this vision. We are dedicating ourselves to the conservative restoration of the buildings, furnishings and all the agricultural equipment left abandoned over time and found in the old adjacent stables.
But above all, we want to introduce these places, full of history, to those who will be able to appreciate it together with our genuine food, strictly produced by the company. We are waiting for you!
